“I didn’t think the video was so sexy or crazy, but I guess, I dunno,” Nicki said sheepishly of her latest Pinkprint video during a chat backstage at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, where she performed three times.
Despite Nicki’s modesty, the “Anaconda” video definitely caused a stir. In just 24 hours after the clip was released on August 19, Minaj logged 19.6 million hits on Vevo, breaking a single-day record previously held by Miley Cryus’ “Wrecking Ball.” Today, “Anaconda” has almost 84 million views, and it still has fans talking about her barely-there outfits and memorizing the impressive gyrations.
“I didn’t expect that. I didn’t even expect the picture getting the controversey it got,” she said. “For the video to break a record, I was like, ’What the?'”
