Swifties, how are you holding up? In case you haven’t heard, Taylor Swift is performing at the 2014 Video Music Awards. This will mark Taylor’s fourth performance at the show. Since she’s slayed so many times in the past, we’re expecting a lot—especially from her hair. Taylor has changed her ’do in a big way every time she’s appeared at the VMAs, and this year we anticipate more of the same, especially since it’s her first VMAs with short hair. Maybe those gravity-defying bangs will make an appearance? Until we find out on August 24, we’ll be scrolling through photos of years past, trying to pinpoint when exactly she gained the ability to make her locks do magical things.
Look at this fresh-faced li’l bb girl. Taylor Swift crossed over from Nashville in a big way, and her tousled, beachy waves look just as natural on Swift as they would on any California girl.
This was the year that Taylor became an indelible part of VMA history, but it also marked a departure from her signature blonde curls. The singer-songwriter channeled a little bit of Old Hollywood with a classy chignon that pulled her hair up and away from her face, with soft layers framing her face. V. adult for a 19-year-old.
Later in the show, Taylor reverted back to the comfort of curls. Sometimes hair can make for a great safety blanket, and with a head of hair like Taylor’s, how can you blame her?
Taylor decided to give retro glamour another shot in 2010. She goes a lot shorter than we’re used to, but we fully cosign this. 61 Times Taylor Swift Slayed At The VMAs
Holy cow, Taylor! Who knew that a little heat-styling could make such a dramatic difference. Between the straightened hair, and the addition of bangs, the “Trouble” singer was almost unrecognizable. Good thing for her signature red lipstick. Phew.
What’s the best way to wear your hair while performing? A ponytail, duh! Taylor’s in good company. Just ask Madonna, Ariana or Iggy, if you don’t believe me.
This year marks a return to retro glam for Tay, this time with loosely pinned curls all around her head. RIP bangs, it was nice knowin’ ya.
So 2014 will be the first year that Taylor has short hair and we’re eager to see how she styles it for the red carpet and her performance. Will it be the same? Will it be different? Will she finally show us how she styles her bangs in unrelenting humidity? We’ll find out in less than two weeks (!!!) at the 2014 VMAs.
