After becoming one of the contest's five semifinalists in June (2,500 hopefuls applied), Emily was officially named the magazine's winner after an online public vote during a segment on Good Morning America today (watch here). And, as part of her prize, she will be the face of its new DVD project.
"I am so shocked I was picked!" she told MTV News after the big moment. "I had a ton of beautiful support from my MTV family, 'Real World' fans and CrossFitters, alike, and I am so overwhelmingly excited to be representing strong and fit women for Women's Health! I cannot wait to spread my love for lifting weights, high intense training and, of course, bacon and butter-coffee to the world."
"It's always a celebratory workout kind of day, but especially today," she added. "It's the best feeling to be in the middle of the workout, tired, and wanting to stop and then thinking of all the people who believe in me. It pushes me in a way I can never describe. That is so cool to me."
The chance to do something unique with the platform and gain exposure is precisely what kept Emily, whose Unleashed Fitness methods center on high-intensity, CrossFit-style workouts, striving for the honor.
"I’m definitely not the typical Women’s Health person," she said in June. "I have bigger muscles. I’m a strong woman with traps and very CrossFit-quadzilla legs, but that makes me even more excited to reach people of all different shapes and sizes."
And now that Emily has the means to reach outside of her home base in Denver, she looks readier than ever to get to work. "So thankful to everyone who voted and to the amazing crew at @WomensHealthMag! I'm honored & thrilled to be chosen as The Next Fitness Star!" she tweeted after being crowned.
"Now you HAVE to come by our office and give us a private workout class! Just saying..." the Women's Health account responded.
