'Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Finds Skye's Father In 'Twin Peaks' Star

He's our Cherry Pie!

Well, that's one mystery solved.

The question of "Who is Skye's father?" was one of the biggest dangling threads at the end of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season one, and now, we at least know the actor playing the man — Kyle MacLachlan, best known as cherry pie-eating federal agent Cooper on "Twin Peaks."

TV Line reports that MacLachlan is all aboard the "S.H.I.E.L.D." train for season two, recurring in the mysterious role of Skye's father. We don't know who the father really is, or anything like that, but it's a clear sign that the mystery of Skye's parentage will play a major role in the second season of the Marvel series.

Given Skye's classification as an 0-8-4 (aka an object of unknown origin), and her infusion with the GH serum derived from that big blue alien, can we deduce that MacLachlan's character will have some otherworldly elements of his own? Will he be Kree, as many have speculated? Now that "Guardians of the Galaxy" has arrived, it feels safe for Marvel to start bringing some of those cosmic elements into the mix. Moving in that direction with MacLachlan as a Ronan-esque Kree, or some other alien species, feels like a very real possibility.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns for its second season on September 23.
