Not long from now, in this very galaxy, a new adventure in the "Star Wars" universe begins — and you can get your first look at those "Rebels" right now.
An extended seven-minute preview from Disney XD's upcoming "Star Wars Rebels" series has gone online, giving us our best look yet at the new heroes and villains populating the "Star Wars" universe. Set between the events of "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope," "Rebels" chronicles the adventures of a small group of rebels raging against the dominant Galactic Empire, paving the way for the Rebel Alliance featured in the original "Star Wars" trilogy.
The seven-minute preview thrusts viewers into the eyes of Ezra Bridger, an adolescent thief who stalks the streets of Lothal, stealing from powerful Imperial forces and giving to … well, himself, if he can help it. But Ezra bites off a little more than he can chew when he steals some crates and a speeder bike from a group of Stormtroopers, throwing himself into the middle of a heist spearheaded by a renegade Jedi named Kanan Jarrus, his brutish partner Zeb Orrelios, and the Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren (who looks like Boba Fett, albeit in pink).
When Ezra steals the cargo and speeder bike, he kicks off a chase that roars through twisting and turning streets and eventually out onto an open highway. Kanan pursues the kid with alternating levels of curiosity and aggravation — but by the end of the preview, both Ezra and Kanan find themselves, ah, "tied" up with some greater enemies than each other.
"Star Wars Rebels" premieres in October.
