'American Idol' Alum Michael Johns' Autopsy Inconclusive

Coroner's Office is waiting for toxicology results.

Just days after "American Idol" alum Michael Johns died unexpectedly at age 35 after reportedly suffering a blood clot in his ankle, results of his autopsy have come back inconclusive, according to TMZ.

The site reported that the medical staff at the Orange County Coroner's Office is deferring the cause of death pending toxicology results. At the time of his death it was reported that Johns had sprained his ankle and suffered swelling that spread to his knee and that the singer had been in "great pain." Unnamed law enforcement sources reportedly told TMZ that police were informed Johns had "engaged in heavy alcohol use at some point prior to his death."

In a recording of the 911 call placed by Johns' friend obtained by TMZ, the friend cries as he tells the dispatcher that when he left Johns two hours earlier the singer seemed fine, but when he returned Johns was not moving, or breathing. The friend describes Johns' body as cold and tries to perform CPR.

Johns was originally from Perth, Australia and finished in eighth place in 2008. He had released several albums with his bands Film and the Rising before competing on the show.
