Contrary to earlier reports, Remy Ma has not been released from prison, MTV News has confirmed. The Bronx rapper was scheduled to be released from the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in New York on Thursday (July 31).
"Remy Smith's tentative release date of July 31 was postponed due to a misbehavior report involving a July 21 incident for phone violations, particularly third party calling," Linda Foglia, a public information officer for the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision told MTV News.
So, what exactly does that mean?
Every inmate has a list of 15 numbers that they're permitted to call. If they call one of those numbers, and that person then forwards the call to a different number, it's a violation -- "third party calling."
Though there's no way of knowing for sure, it seems this violation stems from when Remy called into Angie Martinez's Power 105 show on July 21.
Now, there's no timetable on when Remy will be released, but her punishment for the incident (beyond the immediacy of missing her initial release date) should be sorted out soon. "We expect to resolve that misbehavior report sometime in the next week or so," the Foglia said.
The rapper was sentenced to eight years behind bars in 2008 after she was found guilty on two charges of assault for a shooting.
