It was ScarJo versus The Rock in this weekend's battle of the box office – and it appears brains trumped brawn.
Deadline reports that director Luc Besson's Scarlett Johansson-led "Lucy" is projected to earn a cool $44 million in its opening weekend, besting Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's take on "Hercules," which will bring in about $29 million.
While we're psyched folks are checking out Johnson's bombastic take on the mythical Greek demigod (not to mention the moment when he throws a horse WHAT), we're especially glad to see that Johansson's indie action breakaway from "The Avengers" is a hit with theatergoers.
The buzz about "Lucy" is certainly enough to get our butts in seats – Johansson plays a drug mule who is inadvertently contaminated with a substance that slowly allows her to mentally evolve until she can use 100% of her brain. Revenge plot (and the dulcet tones of Morgan Freeman as supporting scientist) ensue. Need we say more?
