Jay Electronica Admits That Drug Use Derailed His Music Career For Awhile
If you're reading this article, you've probably made at least one joke about Jay Electronica finally dropping his long-delayed album, Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn), in Neveruary -- or, at least you've read a few -- but now the New Orleans rapper admits that a drug problem has been holding back his release.
Jay Elect performed at the 2014 Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival in New York this weekend, where he brought Jay Z, J. Cole and Mac Miller to the stage, and he also took a minute to explain the delay in an interview.
"I backslid for awhile," he told Revolt.Tv. "I got into drugging and drinking and smoking. But now I'm back reformed, all praises due to Allah. I just wanted to come out today -- clean, sober and with my family, taking control of my life and taking control of the game."
Fans have been clamoring for Jay Elect's debut album since he hit us with "Exhibit A" and "Exhibit C," then signed to Roc Nation in 2010.
