Well, this is embarrassing.
Approximately eight days ago, I actually said to my (non-"A Song Of Ice And Fire" reader) roommate, "I just like watching 'Game of Thrones' at the bar, so I can see how everyone else reacts to the things I already know." She rolled her eyes, and now I understand why -- it's because I am the absolute worst.
The good people at College Humor finally made this clear with their latest GoT parody video, "Watching 'Game of Thrones' With People Who Haven't Read the Books." In the video, an excited ASoIaF reader leeches off of his friends' enthusiasm, experiencing "the joy of seeing your friends devastated, they way you were devastated" as well as "the thrill of knowing more than everyone in the room" with a self-satisfied grin.
It's a spot-on take on the strange experience that is watching people excitedly take in (and ask dumb questions about) a series you know like the back of your hand, but it's also a pretty accurate burn for those of us who act maybe a little bit too high and mighty during our weekly "Thrones" screenings. After all, "the only thing better than reading the Red Viper fight is watching people who haven't read the Red Viper fight watch the Red Viper fight."
