From fine-tuning Maroon 5's forthcoming fifth studio album, V (pronounced "Five"), to taping Season 7 of "The Voice," Adam Levine is a little busy right now, to say the least. Luckily, I managed to catch the frontman by day, TV coach by night for a quick sec on June 19 to talk all things V.
"She's incredible. It was so much fun," Adam said of the No Doubt frontwoman, who was announced as a new coach on this fall's season of "The Voice" back in April. "We just sat around and talked for hours. It was so fantastic getting to know her. I'm a huge fan of hers."
Too bad he couldn't reveal the title of the collab yet. No, not because he hates me, but because it doesn't technically have a name locked down yet. "It's being mixed right now," he revealed, "so I literally have not even named the song yet." Adam did add that it's "probably gonna be between two titles," but wouldn't divulge anything further.
The "Moves Like Jagger" singer was similarly tight-lipped about the track list for V -- which drops September 2 -- and wouldn't name any of the LP's other featured artists, songwriters or producers. "I can't let you know everything. I've gotta save some of my tricks for later." Guess this round of shrug emoticons are on me.
Adam was, thankfully, a lot more forthcoming when it came to what V would sound like. "This album is very much all over the place. There's some stuff on our record that sounds a little like early Maroon 5, and then there's some stuff that sounds like the newer direction that we went in.
"I think that's kind of the idea behind the album. It's our fifth record. [Five] is literally part of our name. We thought we'd get back to certain elements that we'd been missing out on for a while with our original sound, but also bridge the gap with the new stuff that we've been doing. I think it's an all-encompassing kind of record." Sounds like it.
Likewise, it didn't take much prodding to get the 35-year-old artist to discuss V's lead single, "Maps." "It was just one of those things that we were really excited to release into the world," Adam explained with a super-palpable enthusiasm in his voice. Anybody else picturing the guys from Maroon 5 releasing doves into the air right now? Anybody? Just me?
Adam and the rest of Maroon 5 are including "Maps" in their set on Friday night at New York City's Bowery Ballroom. (They're headlining the #AmexEveryDayLIVE Concert, which you'll be to stream live at 8pm ET AmexEveryDayLIVE.com if you're so inclined.)
