Many diehard Aaliyah weren't overjoyed over Zendaya's casting in the Lifetime original movie, “Aaliyah: Princess Of R&B.” Now, the family of the late songstress is finally speaking up.

The family took to Twitter to clarify that while they are not currently involved in the A&E Television Networks project, they want fans to be respectful to the young Disney actress as she gears up for the role.

“Fans we hear your comments and concerns !! unfortunately we cannot confirm the family is behind the project at this time,” they wrote. “However ,we do ask that you are respectful to the artist playing the role, for they may not fully have or know the details about this role And her family's involvement #teamaaliyah.”

While the family is being more than diplomatic about their lack of involvement in a made-for-TV film about the iconic chanteuse’s life, the fact that they retweeted an upset fan’s comment paints a very different picture about their feelings regarding the decisions being made about the production.

“I am not that angry @Zendaya is playing @AaliyahHaughton I am angry that the movie is being made without the family's permission,” tweeted @TRUSASHADOROUGH.

As evidenced by her retweets of the family’s message, Zendaya, who already promised to “honor” the “One In A Million” singer with her onscreen portrayal, is keeping a close watch on reactions to her casting.

“Aaliyah: Princess Of R&B,” which is based on Christopher John Farley’s book “Aaliyah: More Than A Woman,” will chronicle the singer’s life from her debut on “Star Search” at 10 years old, to the tragic plane crash that ended her life at the tender age of 22.
