‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Trailer Debuts A Ton Of New Footage

And two glorious scenes with Rocket.

Guardians of the Galaxy” already had us convinced that it was a strange mash-up of sci-fi and superhero movies that we couldn’t possibly miss, and then Marvel Studios had to go and drop this international trailer.

Yeah, it’s really, really good.

Once I had a second to put my eyeballs back in my head, I was able to comb back over the footage and examine just how much is new in the preview.

Let’s dive in.

The opening shots give us what is expected to be the only scenes on Earth. Here, Peter Jason Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord a.k.a. “Who?” is brought into outer space after the tragic loss of his mother.

Flash forward to the present, and Quill is the handsome gentlemen we all recognize as Chris Pratt, but all is not well in the galaxy. Exhibit A: This ship crash, which popped up on some spy photos from set. That’s all I’ll about that.

The trailer also delivered some very, very badass hero shots of all of the Guardians, including this new pose from Gamora (Zoe Saldana). I’m not sure how practical that position is, but damn, if it doesn’t look cool!

gotg-4

Fans of the Guardians books know about Star-Lord’s affinity for his dual pistols, something we haven’t seen much of in the movie promos. Here, he’s shocking some prison guards during the teams’ escape from the Kyln.

This shot, while it might seem unspectacular, is definitely worth diving into. We’ve seen the Guardians in their matching red outfits, but here, they’re surrounded by others in the same suits. Maybe they have more than the core five helping them save the universe.

The banter between Star-Lord and Rocket were the obvious highlights of the new trailer because they show off both the patented Pratt timing that “Parks and Rec” fans love and the brilliant work that Bradley Cooper has done voicing the galaxy’s most heavily armed raccoon. This is why I’m dying to see this movie.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” opens in theaters on August 1.

Writer/editor for MTV. If it involves cowboys, spies, or hitmen, I'm there. All three would be ideal.
