Who Knew Team USA Soccer Captain Clint Dempsey Was Such A Big UGK Fan?

The soccer star says it's 'UGK for life.'

We don't know for sure, but we've got a pretty good guess about what Clint Dempsey, the captain of Team USA Men's Soccer, will be listening to before the squad's matches over the next few weeks during the World Cup. In addition to being a world class athlete, the Nacogdoches, texas native is a huge UGK fan.

"UGK for life," he declared in a previously unreleased clip from Sama'an Ashrawi's documentary "The All-Star Tribute to UGK."

"'One Day'...is another one I can identify with, because I lost my sister at a young age; she was 16, when I was 12," the 31-year-old said, adding that his brother put him on to the duo's 1996 album Ridin' Dirty. "After she passed away, going back and listening to that CD, you can connect with it a little bit more and it has more meaning to you."

"You have to work hard for what you get in life, and sometimes you gotta start at the bottom and work your way up," he said. "And that's kinda what I identify with. because I'm a kid from a small town, and to make it, you gotta really put in the effort and you gotta grind and you gotta go through the trial and error of making those mistakes."

Dempsey also grabbed the mic himself for "Don't Tread," which dropped back in 2007. Enjoy.
