Pharrell Has A Message For The Students At His Alma Mater

Plus, P was given the keys to his native Virginia Beach.

Pharrell has enjoyed many accolades this year, from Grammy awards and Oscar nominations to magazine covers and chart-topping hits.

This past Saturday, Skateboard P was honored in his hometown when the mayor of Virginia Beach gave him the key to the city.

In addition to receiving the key, P spoke at his alma mater, Princess Anne High School, where he spoke highly of his experiences. "Oftentimes, you hear celebrities say, 'Oh, you know, my teachers never thought I was gonna be anything, or they told me I couldn't do it, so look at me now,'" he said. "But that wasn't my experience. My teachers here at PA kept telling me I could."

Pharrell also announced that his educational non-profit, From One Hand to AnOTHER, has partnered with educational technology company EverFi to spark student interest in science, technology, engineering and math.

"Never say 'wanna,' just say 'gonna.'" the "Happy" singer encouraged the students. "'Cause it works."
