Dolly Parton knows you might think her goddaughter is trashy.
Indeed, while the more conservative out there may see videos of Miley Cyrus riding an inflatable penis or twerking on a horse and shake their heads, the 68-year-old country music legend totally gets it.
Namely because she's been through it all before. In an interview with the U.K.'s Sunday Times, Parton says she completely identifies with the place Miley's at in her career.
"Back in the day, doing my own things my own way, and dressing sexy and showing my cleavage and all that, I got a lot of criticism," she said Lots of people thought I was making a mistake and that I was just trashy, which I was. So I did go through that, but I don't give her advice. Everyone has to walk this journey according to their own rules. That's what she's doing. And I lurve her."
In fact, Dolly thinks Miley's persona is rather clever -- saying it's all part of a very clear message she's trying to communicate.
"I've watched her grow up," Parton says. "She's a smart girl. She had to go to extremes to get her point across. I think she got the point across."
