Good Luck Not Bawling Your Way Through Ed Sheeran’s Cover Of Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me’

All over your keyboard.

In a performance that was almost too much to handle — in a good way — Ed Sheeran busted out an emotional cover of Sam Smith‘s “Stay With Me” on BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge on Thursday (June 5).

“It is my favorite song of the last year,” Sheeran said, before launching into the jam. “I think it’s an instant classic. It’s gonna be around for a long time. [Sam Smith] is gonna be around for a long time, as well.”

Although the jam, off of Smith’s debut record In The Lonely Hour, is a deeply personal track — the whole album is about unrequited love — Sheeran added his own spin. His closed-eye rendition indicated that he could likely relate to the aching words.
