Shoddy Disguises, Time Travel And Oversleeping: The Other Side Of 'Catfish'

There's more than meets the eye when it comes to being an online love detective.

Max Joseph and Nev Schulman don't mess around when it comes to documenting wily "Catfish" behavior, but what are the guys really like during their travels in the few minutes the MTV cameras are down? When each episode airs, there's a TON of stuff you never get to see, and now, we have an inside look at what goes on when the pair isn't chasing down digital con artists.

In the behind-the-scenes video below, Max, Nev and key "Catfish" crew members guide you through how a typical (...relative term) day might go while out on location. Apparently, when the guys aren't at coffee shops searching for clues or knocking on doors for firsthand information, they can be found screening car videos, conducting impromptu dance parties or, you know, putting on shoddy disguises as to not be recognized in public. "In order to go out and not get stopped, we've developed a pretty sophisticated technique," Nev jokingly explains as he and Max apply unconvincing mustaches and absurd wigs. Sadly, the two don't outsmart one particularly sharp Best Buy cashier -- maybe the fake facial hair was a bit much?

But if you really, really want to know what it's like to be out on the open road with these guys, you need not look any further than Max's bed...where he's usually snoozing. "If they're holding, he's asleep," Danielle, an assistant production coordinator, divulges. "If we go back to the hotel for a couple of minutes, he's asleep. We've mic'd him while he's been snoring. He sleeps anytime he can." Hey, fighting Internet crimes of the heart is exhausting!

Check out the video for a legit look at Nev and Max's day-to-day routine, and be sure to tune in to a new episode of "catfish" tonight at 10/9c!
