Lupe Fiasco Signs On As Music Director For U.S. Soccer Team

Lu will lend his musical programming touch to the team during the World Cup.

Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez may have the official song of the 2014 World Cup, but Lupe Fiasco has been tapped as Music Director for the United States Men’s National Team’s 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign.

According to the United States Soccer Federation's official site, Lupe's role will include him creating Spotify playlists and also programming the in-game music for the Send-Off Series, which are exhibition games prior to the official start of the World Cup.

This is the second big day in a row for Lu, who on Monday released "Mission," a new single off of his upcoming album Tetsuo & Youth. The empowering track, which tells stories of those fighting cancer, also marked the beginning of the Chicago native's partnership with the organization Stand Up To Cancer.

The MC will appear in Times Square on May 30 for Fan Appreciation Day, and then perform in his hometown before the start of the team's game against Ghana on June 16.

The World Cup officially begins June 12.
