Yesterday, XXL revealed their annual Freshman class cover, spotlighting 12 up and coming artists. To put the yearly cover together, they set up a photo shoot, where all the guys come together for the first time, and the above behind-the-scenes videos, directed by Luke Tedaldi shows glimpses of introductions, filming of the cyphers, the actual cover shoot and more.
"I think that these Freshmen interacted with each other more than any other class," the magazine's Editor-in-Chief, Vanessa Satten, said to MTV News. "They are a fun talented bunch and you can see that in the their Freshmen freestyles and cyphers. They enjoyed rapping together and making new connections. Also we added R&B this year. We are hip-hop on a higher level and as the lines blur between singing and rapping more than ever ‒ it made sense that XXL include some singers."
