Sally Field: 'I Could Be Mr. Doubtfire'

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' star opens up about the 'Mrs. Doubtfire' sequel.

Ever since the announcement last week that a sequel to the 1993 family classic "Mrs. Doubtfire" is in development, the world has been wondering what the plot of the movie could possibly be. Has one of the kids grown up and decided to do a little gender-bending of their own? Maybe there's another layer to this family-friendly onion, and the next installment will focus on a man pretending to be a woman pretending to be a man to win the devotion of his second cousins or babysitting charges or whatever young wide-eyed things need impressing.

Or maybe, just maybe, it's as simple as putting Sally Field, who played Robin Williams' character's ex-wife, in drag, and calling it a day.

When MTV News caught up with Field on the red carpet ahead of the premiere of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," in which she plays Peter Parker's devoted Aunt May, she insisted that she didn't know any plot details.

"Maybe the mother character is already in a home!" she said.

When presented with the idea of her character wearing the pants in the next film, Field quickly acquiesced: "I could be Mr. Doubtfire." We even had a poster made up to show her what it would look like, to her surprise. Check out the clip above to see her reaction, and take a gander at our mocked-up poster below.
