When it was announced earlier this week that the final movie in the “Divergent” series, “Allegiant,” would be split into two movies, some people were surprised and some saw it coming from a mile away.
Obviously, they’d know since they’re both in “Divergent,” but on the red carpet for the 2014 MTV Movie Awards, the stars revealed that they’ve known for a really long time. Actually, they knew it was a possibility from the beginning, but it wasn’t always a guarantee.
According to Elgort, when he signed on to “Divergent” as Tris’ brother, Caleb, he was told that adapting Veronica Roth’s three books into four movies was a possibility. Based on what he said, the four-movie plan was directly related to how well “Divergent” did.
“We knew when we signed up for it that if the first one did well, hopefully we could do a second one, and if it did really well, the third one would be split into two,” he said.
While Woodley saw the announcement coming, there was a time when she thought it wouldn’t happen. She had previously heard that the current plan for “Allegiant” was off the table, but obviously, that has changed.
“At one point, I heard that it was not going to happen, and then now it is happening,” Woodley said. “You never know, man. Life changes every day, right? You’ve just got to really surrender to the process.”
Before Woodley and Elgort head back to dystopian Chicago, they’re starring in “The Fault in Our Stars” and starred in the clip that premiered during the 2014 MTV Movie Awards pre-show.
