8 Ways To Up Your Street Style At Coachella

MTV News breaks down fashion trends that everyone should be rocking at this year's Coachella Music and Arts Festival.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is just a few days away, and festivalgoers are gearing up for two weekends filled with their favorite music under the hot California desert sun.

The annual festival kicks off Friday, April 11, in Indio, California, and of course, it's all about the music. Set to perform are Outkast, who are reuniting for the first time in seven years, Pharrell, Skrillex, Lorde and Movie Awards performer Ellie Goulding. However, this music fest is also all about the fashion — it's known for it's laid-back, boho-chic spirit.

To prepare you for this year's Coachella festival, we've pulled together eight ways to help you beat the heat, look stylish and guarantee that you have a #covermoment at Coachella.

1. Trend: Boho-Chic Hairstyle

Why It's A Coachella Must-Have

A boho-chic hairstyle is a Coachella essential, and it's not only really cute, it's also really quick to do. All I did was take a large-barrel curling iron to create beach waves, alternating the direction that I curled my hair in to give it a more natural look. From the hairline, I twisted two small pieces away from my face and pinned them behind my head with bobby pins. Easy, breezy and festival friendly.

2. Trend: Bright Lips

Why It's A Coachella Must-Have

Bright lipstick is a major trend for spring and summer of 2014 and an incredibly easy way to kick your festival makeup look to the next level. I used the COVERGIRL LipPerfection LipColor in Sweet, a beautiful coral color that really made my lips pop and complemented my skin tone nicely.

3. Trend: Shimmery Eyes

Why It's A Coachella Must-Have

To get a shimmery look that will actually last while you're dancing the day away, you're going to need to prep the right way. Using an eye shadow brush, I applied COVERGIRL shine shadow in Copper Fling to my eyelid, blending outward. The shine shadow is super-creamy but feels really lightweight, which is perfect for an outdoor music festival. I finished off the look with a subtle cat eye, using COVERGIRL Bombshell Intensity liner in Pitch Black Passion and Bombshell Mascara in Very Black. Watch the video here.

4. Trend: Nail Art

Why It's A Coachella Must-Have

No Coachella beauty look would be complete without killer nails. I went for a diagonal-layered French mani, using COVERGIRL polishes in Forever Fawn, Reliable Red and Wine-to-Five. This look is supercute and definitely a manicure you can DIY before this weekend. Get the look here.

5. Trend: Crochet Top

Why It's A Coachella Must-Have

Crochet tops are perfect for Coachella because they mix the hippie vibe with a modern shape. I love a crochet top that's a bit cropped since that is totally on trend right now, and if you pair it with a little tank top or even a bra-let underneath, it keeps you cool in the hot desert sun but doesn't make you feel overexposed.

6. Trend: Denim Cut-Offs

Why It's A Coachella Must-Have

Denim cut-offs are not just a Coachella staple, they are a summer staple, so if you don't have them, drop everything and go get a pair. Cut-offs are comfortable if you're sitting in the grass taking in the music, flattering if you're dancing to your favorite band, and can be worn with a simple T-shirt or an embellished top.

7. Trend: Long Beaded Necklaces

Why It's A Coachella Must-Have

Long beaded necklaces are a great way to dress up your look. They give the outfit that extra boho-chic flare, but also give you the opportunity to show off more of your individual style and make the look completely your own.

8. Trend: Ankle Booties

Why It's A Coachella Must-Have

Ankle booties are a go-to for a festival style for three reasons. One, they go with everything — shorts, dresses or rolled-up jeans — and they always pull the look together. Second, you want a little bit of a heel because you want to show off your legs, but you also don't want too much of a heel since you will be running around from show to show. Third, you don't know what the weather is going to be like, so if by chance it rains, your feet are covered, because, trust me from personal experience, nothing is worse than walking around a muddy festival in open-toe sandals!
