These Are The 42 Most Perfect Spider-Man Seconds Ever

It doesn't get better than this clip from the upcoming sequel.

To really embrace “The Amazing Spider-Man” meant taking the good with the bad.

Andrew Garfield‘s take on the wall crawler was the closest the movies have come to capturing Spidey’s energy, but did we need to see another origin story? The chemistry between Garfield and Emma Stone was palpable, but the Lizard was a pretty lame villain.

Considering that last complaint, I haven’t exactly been thrilled to Spider-Man facing off against three different baddies in previews for “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” A new clip from the movie, however, has interested in the series again for a simple reason.

This clip, which hit the Sony Pictures UK YouTube channel over the weekend, is only 42 seconds long, but it’s a perfect snapshot of how well Marc Webb and his team understand Spider-Man.

The costume is the obvious place to start. With “The Amazing Spider-Man” being so clearly a reboot, it’s no surprise that the studio would demand a suit that felt “different” and “edgy.” But in reality, it was just kind of “bad.” The new suit is classic Spidey. While casual fans might say “That’s just a Spider-Man costume,” hardcore fans are too busy drooling to talk.

And it ripples! Again, this might sound silly, but it’s the little things that count. Big screen Spider-Man costumes have always seemed glued to Peter in a way that never suggests they’re suits made of some kind of cloth. This is a nerdy, loving detail that counts.

Then there’s the web-swinging. It’s graceful, creative and fun. There’s an inherent understanding of not only Spidey’s movement, but his personality in the way he moves through New York City.

It remains to be seen how “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ will hold up as a movie, but based on what I’m seeing here and in the other previews, at least we know that the real Spider-Man will be in it.

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ opens in theaters on May 2.

Writer/editor for MTV. If it involves cowboys, spies, or hitmen, I'm there. All three would be ideal.
