Contrary to earlier reports that said he'd been discharged, a source close to the 24-year-old Swedish DJ (born Tim Bergling), told Billboard on Friday (March 28), that Avicii is still under a doctor's care at the hospital. Avicii was slated to play a show at SLS South Beach in Miami Beach, but canceled shortly before taking the stage.
Less than an hour before Avicii was to perform, Australian DJ duo Cazzette informed the crowd that Bergling had been taken to the hospital. The source told Billboard that Avicii is "doing better" and that he's "going to be fine."
In a since-deleted tweet, Avicci wrote, "At the hospital ... Extremely bummed about missing my show at the Avicii Hotel. My brother @Alesso is stepping up and covering for me."
The Thursday gig was going to be the second in a planned five-show series at the hotel, which had been rebranded in the DJ's honor as part of his Avicii Hotel series. Avicii is also scheduled to play a Saturday night headlining gig at Miami's Ultra Music Festival, but at press time it was unknown if he would be discharged in time to make that show.
A spokesperson for Avicii could no be reached for comment at press time. Avicii wasn't the only DJ ailing on Thursday, as Afrojack alerted his followers that he was also in a local hospital to, "prevent an early end to this weekend," due to what he later said was a case of dehydration.
