Lorde Makes Over Son Lux’s ‘Easy,’ And It’s Just As Creepy

The singer records the often-covered tune, making it even more haunting.

After shedding some love on Son Lux‘s 2013 album Laterns and covering its song “Easy” on tour, Lorde remixed the song with Ryan Lott himself, redubbing it “Easy (Switch Screens).”

Sleepily and hauntingly, Lorde drapes her vocals over his, creating horror-movie voices. The make-over injects her minimalistic pop percussion into the mix with rattling sticks and epileptic beats. Keeping to the original, the pair leaves in the baritone sax to do its thing, but add a choir of Lorde layers as backup vocals.

“Easy, easy/ Pull out the heart to make the being alone,” they sing over the sparse, echoed hand claps. The doubled voices create a demonic undertone while a singing theremin pines sweetly overtop. A distorted electric guitar disturbs any peace you may have been feeling.

The remixed song is part of Son Lux’s four-track EP called Alternate Worlds, which is currently online and will be released on vinyl May 27th.

The 17-year-old New Zealander had taken a liking to the eerie track last year. Watch her cover it live, complete with chaotic dancing:
