Ben Affleck’s Batman Costume Gets An ‘Excellent’ Review From Matt Damon

The star of 'Monuments Man' knows the story of the 'Man of Steel' sequel.

If you’re looking forward to “Batman Vs. Superman,” you probably want to know what Ben Affleck looks like in the batsuit, but you’re also very likely curious about what the redesigned costume will be like. Since Zack Snyder’s take on the Caped Crusader won’t have anything to do with the Christian Bale version, the suit is probably different enough to make that clear.

Only a handful of people have seen Affleck in the costume, and even fewer have talked about it. There was Kevin Smith’s enthusiastic ramblings after a “Man of Steel” fan event, and now Affleck’s best bud, Matt Damon, had told MTV News what he thinks of the getup.

The Academy Award winner stopped to chat with us at the red carpet premiere for “The Monuments Men,” the film directed by former-Batman George Clooney. Damon admitted that he has seen a photo of Affleck in the costume and that he knows a thing or two about the story.

“I’ve seen a picture,” he said. “I have seen a picture. It’s excellent. And I’ve talked to him about the story line, and it’s great.”

This is the second positive review of the new batsuit after Kevin Smith hyped up the redesign on his podcast after hosting the “Man of Steel” live fan event. Snyder apparently showed Smith a photo of Affleck in the suit, and the lifelong comic book fan was elated.

“Now, I don’t want to give anything away because that is up to them and stuff, but I am going to say this: I instantly bear-hugged [Snyder],” Smith said. “You have not seen this costume in a movie on film before. And for a comic-book fan, it was mind-bending.”

As a longtime friend of Affleck’s, Damon said that he was the person in the prime position to tell the future Bruce Wayne if he was making a huge mistake, but what he has seen from the movie convinced him otherwise. “Look, I’ve known him for thirty-something years,” Damon said. “I’d be the first guy being like, ‘Buddy, what are you doing?’ But I think the movie is going to be great.”

“Batman Vs. Superman” is scheduled to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.

Writer/editor for MTV. If it involves cowboys, spies, or hitmen, I'm there. All three would be ideal.
