We've already had several good looks at the upcoming "Amazing Spider-Man 2," but the Super Bowl spot had fans buzzing by the time it aired. A key scene from Spider-Man lore, one involving Spidey (Andrew Garfield), Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), and a terrifying fall, seemed to be teased in early footage. But did they follow through with it?
Well, no. Spidey catches Gwen, and she's fine. That doesn't mean the famous scene where Green Goblin tosses her off the Brooklyn Bridge, breaking her neck won't end up in the movies... But it does mean they're going to keep teasing us with the event.
And speaking of teasing, if the second half of a trailer wasn't enough, how about a nearly four minute sizzle reel called "Enemies Unite?"
There's a huge amount of new footage in this, focusing on -- as you can imagine -- the bad guys. You get to see the first meeting between Jamie Foxx's Electro, and even his supervillain origin in full. And then Harry Osborn. And then Norman Osborn. And then the whole city falls down.
The sequel follows up on the events of the first movie in the rebooted series, finding Peter Parker more comfortable in his Spider-Man duds but still investigating the events around his parents' mysterious disappearance.
It's been hinted that in this new series, Spider-Man didn't gain his powers by mistake; and that in fact, he shares the same source as villains Electro (Jamie Foxx), Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan), and possibly even Rhino (Paul Giamatti).
We'll certainly know more once the movie opens July 3, 2014.
