From Danity Kane to Day26, MTV's "Making the Band" was responsible for assembling some massive musical acts. And this Saturday (February 1) at 2:30 p.m. ET/PT, MTV's "Retromania: Hip-Hop" will be catching up with one of the most memorable castmates from the show: Dylan from Da Band.
While the rapper made the group for his musical abilities, he became a reality TV favorite during an episode when Sean "Diddy" Combs assigned the show's hopefuls to walk from midtown Manhattan to Brooklyn for a cheesecake from Junior's restaurant.
While Dylan was resistant at first — "Is this man trying to play me?" he remembers thinking — he ultimately made the trek across the Brooklyn Bridge for Diddy's dessert.
"[At the time I was] not realizing the whole purpose of the cake, the cake equals dollars, the cake is your goals and everything else in life, so it's like, what are you willing to do, to get that cake," Dylan said. "And after the whole thing I don't even think Diddy had the cake, Beyoncé actually had the studio session after that and Diddy gave the cheesecake to Beyoncé."
Since the show, Dylan has parted ways with the other members of the group — "we don't keep in touch as people might think," he said — but has nothing but love for them and his former mentor.
So what's next for the Bad Boy alum? He's still working on his music, of course.
"I've already released [several] mix tapes and done performances, shows in the Caribbean and the States," he told MTV News. "I'm excited about releasing my newest project, it's entitled 'Pain 2 Power' and hosted by YMCMB/Rich Gang member Hollywood. To be released spring."
