Grab Your Tissues: Macklemore Talks Grammy Marriages And Fiancée

'It just gives me goose bumps to think about it,' Macklemore told Ellen DeGeneres.

It may have been hard to find a dry eye in the Staples Center following Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' Grammy performance of "Same Love," but imagine what it must have been like onstage for the duo.

The duo took home four awards, including Best Rap album, at Sunday's Grammys, where Madonna and Queen Latifah helped them officiate 33 marriages of both gay and straight couples.

"I got emotional during rehearsal, and I got emotional during the performance," Macklemore admitted on "Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Tuesday (January 28). "During the third verse, I started rapping and that's when the procession of couples started to come in. It just gives me goose bumps to think about it. To watch the Staples Center kind of erupt and stand up and participate in that ceremony, it was magical."

He then joked, "I was just thinking that I was rapping really well at that point and everyone was like 'love this verse,' not at all, it was the couples."

The inspiration behind the wedding ceremony was sparked by Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich's daughter, who brought to his attention that several same-sex couples have gotten engaged at their concerts during performances of "Same Love."

"People would email us and be like, 'Hey, is there any way I can propose onstage'," said Lewis, whose sister was married during the performance. "So we've done that a few times and he thought that was a cool idea and it just started building and building and turned into 33 couples."

There is another wedding in the future for the Seattle natives, and that is Macklemore's. The "Thrift Shop" rapper is engaged to longtime girlfriend, Tricia Davis, who was proudly supporting her fiancé Grammy night and was visibly emotional when they won Best New Artist.

"My fiancée was with me when we were printing up 20 shirts at a time to sell at a show with 15 people there. She's been with us every step of the way. She produces our videos, she's our tour manager, she's been there from the beginning," Macklemore said. "When we won Best New Artist she kind of broke down into tears and I was like, all right, we are definitely being watched by 30 million people right now."
