Stephen Colbert, Snarky Puppy And Other Surprise Grammy Winners

'Colbert Report' host took home his second golden gramophone on Sunday night.

The 56th annual Grammy Awards was wayyy heavy on performances. With less than a dozen of the 80-plus golden gramophones getting prime time love, you might have missed a number of other winners Sunday night.

Because, let's face it, even your granny has shaken her surgically-repaired hip to Daft Punk's Record of the Year winner "Get Lucky" and likely mangled the line about taking your grandpa's style from four-time winners Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop."

So, who were some of the other big winners whose names you might have missed? Here's the rest of the best:

Who's Honoring Stephen Now?

Halfway to his EGOT (sorry Stephen, Peabodys and Ben & Jerry's flavors don't count), "Colbert Report" host and fake conservative Stephen Colbert notched his second Grammy, this time for Best Spoken Word Album for the audiobook of "America Again: Re-becoming The Greatness We Never Weren't."

Besting such legends as Carol Burnett, Billy Crystal, Pete Seeger and NPR favorite David Sedaris, Colbert added it to his Best Comedy Album Grammy for 2010's "A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift Of All!"

Rock Is Alive And Well ... In 1969

A trio of rock legends managed to shuffle by the youngsters for Best Metal Performance, with the reformed Black Sabbath getting honored for 13, the Rick Rubin-produced album that beat out Anthrax, Dream Theater, Killswitch Engage and Volbeat with King Diamond.

Speaking of the late 60s, Led Zeppelin's live reunion album, Celebration Day snagged Best Rock Album, which, believe it or don't, is their first-ever Grammy win outside of the Grammy Hall of Fame category.

Welcome To The Party, Lana

Though producer Cedric Gervais got the gold, the Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical was kind of a win for wan crooner Lana Del Rey, since Ced nabbed the win for her re-do of her song "Summertime Sadness."

Snarky Puppy Bites Into A Grammy

I'm not gonna front, I had no idea who Snarky Puppy is. Since the hard-touring Brooklyn-based jazz fusion band won Best R&B Performance for their tune "Something" with Lalah Hathaway (yes, daughter of soul icon Donny Hathaway) though, I did some research. I learned that they're a Denton, Texas-bred ensemble that has jammed with everyone from Erykah Badu to Snoop Dogg and Justin Timberlake over the past decade.

And clearly Grammy voters thought the slow-burn "Something" had, well, something that tracks from reality star Tamar Braxton, Anthony Hamilton, the amazingly named Hiatus Kaiyote and Miguel's "How Many Drinks?" didn't.

Thumbs Up For Mandisa

Who says you have to win "American Idol" to rule the Grammys? Case in point: season-five ninth-place "Idol" finalist and admitted adult thumb-sucker Mandisa Hundley, who won her first Grammy in four tries on Sunday for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for Overcomer.

Steve Martin Wins, No Joke

Sure, comedy legend Steve Martin has two Best Comedy Album wins for his iconic late 1970s recordings, but did you know that he picked up his third Grammy for his bluegrass side gig on Sunday night? Yup, Martin picked his way to Best American Roots Song for his duet with former New Bohemian Edie Brickell on "Love Has Come For You."

This year's comedy greatness was scooped up by Kathy Griffin for Calm Down Gurrl.

Esperanza Does It Again

2011 Best New Artist winner jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding nabbed her fourth Grammy for the hotly contested Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) for her hook-up with Gil Goldstein and Bobby McFerrin on "Swing Low."

Take that, flash in the pan!
