Lana Del Rey Haunts The 'Maleficent' Soundtrack

The singer will be featured on the soundtrack for the May 30 film starring Angelina Jolie.

Lana Del Rey's version of "Once Upon A Dream" isn't exactly the sugary-sweet version that appeared in Disney's "Sleeping Beauty." The singer, fittingly, has put a haunting twist on the theme from Disney's version of the fairytale for the soundtrack to the dark twist on the classic, "Maleficent," starring Angelina Jolie.

Fans got a small taste of her version of the song in the "Maleficent" trailer, which premiered during the Grammy Awards on Sunday night. While the 1959 original was a duet between Sleeping Beauty and her charming prince Phillip, Del Rey goes at it alone in this updated take on the original, which features her dreamy vocals and sparse production. The song is all about meeting that special someone and feeling like you've known them for your entire life, as if you've encountered them in a dream before.

So while Jolie is causing havoc as the film's witchy title character, Del Rey adds her own special magic to the score. While a snippet of her cover can be found in the trailer, Hypable has a full version of the release. The song is also available for free to download on Google Play.

"Maleficent" hits theaters on May 30. It also features Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora. The film also stars Brenton Thwaites as Prince Phillip and Sharlto Copley as Aurora's dad, King Stefan. Angelina's daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, will also make an appearance in the film as Young Princess Aurora. The film reimagines the classic Disney tale from the point-of-view of Maleficent, who feels threated by Aurora.

Lana is quickly becoming the go-to voice for big-budget movie soundtracks. She was featured on "The Great Gatsby" soundtrack last year with her equally eerie ballad "Young and Beautiful."
