Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros knows the secret to partying with Sean John Combs (a.k.a. Diddy): Just crash his yacht party while shirtless and “full of dirt.”
When Ebert went to collect his Golden Globe from Diddy for “Best Original Score” for “All Is Lost,” the two shared a brief “Hey bro, you remember me…?” moment onstage: As the musician shakes Diddy’s hand, he whispers in the rapper’s ear, “You remember me from the boat?”
Diddy, pleased, responds, “Yeah, you did! He was on a boat with me, partying in St. Bart’s! And now, here we are, together.”
MTV New’s Josh Horowitz caught up with Ebert at Sundance to find out the story behind the odd onstage encounter and, whoa, it’s a tale worthy on a Golden Globe itself.
Find out how Ebert managed to sneak his way into the bash — and about Diddy’s suggested dress code — in the video below.
