You can't teach an old dog new tricks, but you can surround the old dog with a bunch of other old dogs.
That's a saying, right?
If it's not a saying, at least it's a strategy, and it's one that's worked for Lionsgate's creaky-boned action franchise, "The Expendables." Sylvester Stallone has led an all-star cast of aging action heroes since the first "Expendables" hit theaters in 2010, and now, the third film in the series (aptly titled "The Expendables 3") is on its way next year, with even more recognizable faces (Mel Gibson! Harrison Ford!) along for the ride.
What, you don't believe that Ford would stoop to the "Expendables" movies' level? Well, here's a brand-new trailer to prove you're wrong.
The trailer, like the first look at "Expendables 2," is basically a list of names of everyone in the movie, along with a money shot of more members of the Expendables than there are in some small villages. And that's it. No plot, no actual film footage, just a bunch of old guys hanging out in an airline hanger.
Hey, as long as Banderas does this at some point in the movie, it's all good:
Director Patrick Hughes' "The Expendables 3" stars returning players Stallone, Statham and Jet Li, alongside "newcomers" (using the term loosely) Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas and more. The threequel blasts into theaters on August 15, 2014.
