Miley Cyrus reigned in 2013 and topped our Best Artist list
, but the pop princess didn’t do it alone.
Miley owes a great deal of her success to hip-hop. Back in 2009, Miley copped to having never heard a Jay Z song, but this year earned a very telling shoutout on Jigga’s latest LP and has been linked with everyone from Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa to Mike Will Made It and Future.
The Twerk That Started It All
Women in strip clubs across the globe have been twerking for years, but Miley made the dance super-trendy when she posted a video of herself dancing in a onesie to J Dash’s “WOP” track . After thousands of likes, Facebook shares and a couple of trending topics, Miley quickly became the face of the rump-shaking dance.
Bandz A Make Her Dance (With Juicy J)
Twerk videos are cool, but it isn’t official until Juicy J gives it the stamp of approval. Back in June, little Ms. Cyrus joined Juice onstage in Hollywood and shook her tail feather for the whole crowd to see while he rapped his hit “Bandz a Make Her Dance.” It was all pretty trippy!
Hov Said Twerk It
Miley name-dropped Jay in her 2009 hit “Party in the U.S.A.,” but later admitted to never actually ever listening to a Hov song. Well, she definitely heard “Somewhereinamerica,” the track off of Jigga’s Magna Carta… Holy Grail, where he encourages Miley to keep twerking.
Dedications On Top Of Dedications
Miley loves hip-hop, but hip-hop also loves Miley; just look at all the dedications she got. Migos dropped “Hannah Montana,” DJ Holiday released “Miley” and Ying Yang Twins staged a rap comeback with their “Miley Cyrus” single.
We haven’t heard the track yet, but Kanye West and Miley Cyrus definitely have something cooking. In March, Bangerz executive producer Mike Will Made It confirmed on “RapFix Live” that Miley and Kanye are working on a “Black Skinhead” remix. We wonder what that would sound like.
Showing Love To Biggie And ‘Pac
Miley hit the MTV EMA red carpet in a cool dress that paid homage to the late Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. That’s pretty cool.
She Looks Good In Jordans
Miley turned more than a few heads when she strapped up a pair of Wolf Grey Air Jordan 5s and one of Michael’s classic Chicago Bulls jerseys in Mike Will’s “23″ video with Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J.
Got Naked For Future
We’d imagine Future has seen quite a few ladies take it off — of course all before he proposed to his main squeeze Ciara. Still, it was a pretty memorable moment when Miley got cozy with the Astronaut kid wearing nothing but space glitter for their “Real and True” video.
Yo! Miley Raps
The pop singer turned heads when she spit bars on will.i.am’s “Feelin’ Myself.” We don’t think she’ll make a habit of it, but hey, she’s in her experimental stage.
Excuse Her French
French Montana ruled airwaves “Ain’t Worried About Nothin’” and for the remix he recruited Miley. Now when is that Hannah Montana/French Montana best of both worlds album coming?
Hot Like Fire
Miley is hot so it was pretty much a no-brainer when Big Sean decided to place her as the lead in his “Fire” video.
You can’t be a respectable hip-hop artist unless you’ve had a leaked track in your catalog. Back in August, Lil Twist managed to nab Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus for his “Twerk” except the song got pulled from the Internet and never was actually offered up as an official release.
Can’t have an album titled Bangerz without a couple of rappers on it, right? It’s kind of implied. Not only did Miley get Mike Will to produce her #1 album she had more rap features than a DJ Khaled Album. Nelly, Big Sean, Future, French Montana and Ludacris all showed up.
