Warner Bros. surprised just about everyone this afternoon with the announcement that, yes, Wonder Woman will appear in the untitled "Batman Vs. Superman" movie and that she'll be played by a relatively unknown actress.
The Internet exploded and fanboys were enraged — all the usual stuff with a casting announcement — but once the smoke cleared from the news, many people were understandably left with one question: So, who is Gal Gadot?
With a year and a half still to go before "Batman Vs. Superman" hits the screen, here are the things you should know in the meantime about your new Wonder Woman.
You Actually Know Her
You've probably seen her in a movie already without knowing it. Gadot played Gisele Yashar, a cartel member in "Fast & Furious" and a member of Dom's heist crew in "Fast Five" and "Fast & Furious 6." The latter two films became the most successful installments, earning $1.4 billion at the global box office, so Gadot isn't exactly new to big-budget blockbusters. She also made appearances in "Date Night" with Tina Fey and Steve Carell and "Knight and Day" with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.
She Competed In Miss Universe
Gabot was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, where at the age of 18, she was scheduled to join the military for two years, as is required of all citizens. Her plans changed, however, when she won the Miss Israel pageant in 2004. She went on to compete in Miss Universe, but failed to place in the global competition. Gadot was able to parlay the pageants into a successful modeling career though.
She Knows How Handle Weapons
After her reign as Miss Israel ended, Gadot completed her two years of required service in the Israeli military. And while her training might not have involved the type of weaponry that Wonder Woman is known for, Gadot's time in the armed forces did include firearms skills, something that came in handy in the "Fast & Furious" movies.
She's Shorter Than Both Batman And Superman
For the fanboys out there wondering how Wonder Woman will stack up (vertically) to the other two heroes on screen, there are a few inches between the super-powered actors. Gadot stands at 5' 9", four inches shorter than Henry Cavill and seven inches shorter than Ben Affleck.
"Batman Vs. Superman" opens in theaters on July 17, 2015.
