Jay Z And Beyonce Are Going Vegan

Jay announces that he and his wife are giving the plant-based diet a shot for a 22-day 'spiritual and physical cleanse.'

As if going vegan wasn't cool enough — just look at this blog or this description for the "naturally addictive" Hipster's Dust — on Tuesday (December 3), America's coolest (and not to mention, mainstream) couple joined the bandwagon when they announced they, too, are cutting out meat.

Not permanently, of course. Jay Z and Beyonce are going to try a plant-based diet for three weeks for what Jay called "a spiritual and physical cleanse."

"On December 3rd, one day before my 44th birthday, I will embark on a 22 Days challenge to go completely vegan, or as I prefer to call it, plant-based!!" the Magna Carta Holy Grail rapper wrote on his Life and Times website.

For the uninitiated (and, according to some, the hell-bound), a vegan lifestyle means cutting out any and all foods that come from animals.

Why 22 days? Well, not only does Hov have a "spiritual" connection to the number due to his turning 44 on Wednesday — "2 + 2=4," he reminded us — but that also means it ends on Christmas Day, just in time for them put an especially gluttonous end to their cleanse. It's also the number of days that Marco Borges -- who is praised on his website as "The World's Best Trainer" by Jay Z and "brilliant" by Pharrell -- says is the number of days it takes to "make or break a habit."

"I will post my progress... Any professional vegans out there that have any great food spots please help out! Please ha," Jay wrote. "I don't know what happens after Christmas. A semi-vegan, a full plant-based diet? Or just a spiritual and physical challenge? We'll see..."

Perhaps a move to Williamsburg?
