When MTV News caught up with Walker, he gave us details about Kurt Russell's role in the upcoming tentpole and how his character interacts with Dominic Toretto and Brian O'Conner.
"He plays the cool guy that we've never had looking out for us in the past," Walker said. "Kind of like the father figure. Dom and Brian are kind of misfits and figuring out their way, so in a way, I think Dom's really been the father figure-slash-older brother that Brian never had."
Russell joins in on a cast that also includes franchise mainstays Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris and Dwayne Johnson, as well as fellow newcomer Jason Statham.
"Now we got Kurt Russell that comes in and is like, 'I got you boys,'" Walker added with a laugh. "It's cool having Kurt, 'cause that's his nature anyway. I grew up watching his stuff, 'Tango & Cash' and 'Big Trouble in Little China' some eighteen hundred thousand times — it was one of my favorites as a kid."
As a huge fan of the 62-year-old actor, Walker was pleasantly surprised to find out that in real life, Russell is actually "a cool guy."
"We have a lot of the same interests," Walker revealed. "He raced cars for a while, he's an outdoorsman. He's into cool stuff. I really like having him around."
Vin Diesel debuted a first look at Russell's character in September, showing the trio all dressed up — apparently, with somewhere to go.
"Fast & Furious 7" is due to hit theaters on July 11, 2014, but for those needing their Walker fix sooner, his latest project, the indie thriller "Hours," is out December 13.
