Ariana Grande is gearing up to spread the Christmas joy all season long.
Last week, the "Baby I" singer announced on Twitter that she would be releasing both original and cover Christmas songs every Tuesday "as a countdown to the holidays" beginning November 19. The rollout is similar to labelmate Justin Bieber, who has been releasing new music every week for #MusicMondays.
However, Grande was in the giving spirit on Tuesday (November 12) and, via her Instagram, gave her Arianators a 15-second snippet of the first song, "Last Christmas."
Grande takes her own spin on the Wham! hit, speeding up the tempo and laying down an impressive vocal, which, based on her hashtags, was produced by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and The Rascals, who both worked on her chart-topping album, Yours Truly.
MTV News recently caught up with Grande while in Amsterdam, where she was a backstage host at the MTV EMA, and she revealed why she went with the that song as the introduction to her holiday collection.
"Well, I love it. It feels good," Grande said. "But it has a melancholy lyric, so I like that, it's interesting and it seems to be one of the favorites that everyone loves and we put a really fun twist on it. We took the chorus and then we rewrote the verses and all that stuff, very excited."
One song she won't be tackling, however, is Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You,"Grande, whose voice has often been compared to Carey's, says it's "untouchable."
However, that leaves room for Grande to make her own Christmas classic, in fact, she will be releasing two original songs, and told us the tricks of writing the perfect holiday track.
"You just write about your feelings and throw in a fireplace here and there, a sensible mistletoe lyric, and you got it," she explained.
