‘Captain America’ Toys First Look: What Do They Reveal About ‘The Winter Soldier’?

Diamond Select exclusively reveals its upcoming Marvel toy line to MTV News.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier” may not hit theaters until April, but if you want a first glimpse at what the movie might look like… Well, you’ve come to the wrong place. However, if you want some teasing info, and maybe a sense of how some of the plot might fall out? Read on.

Diamond Select Toys has given MTV News the exclusive first “look” at their line based on the movie. Or, at least, silhouettes of Chris Evans’ Captain America in stealth suit mode, and Anthony Mackie’s Falcon in flight mode.

Not only will these figures featuring the characters’ distinct looks from the movie be released as 7-inch scale figures; but Diamond will also be releasing a “Captain America” line of their popular two-inch tall Minimates. Minimates Series 55 comes in the following two-packs:

» Stealth Uniform Captain America with Crossbones
» Final Battle Captain America with Winter Soldier
» Black Widow with Falcon
» Agent Sitwell with Batroc

But perhaps more importantly for movie fans, what can we learn from these figures? First of all, there’s a really good look at new hero The Falcon’s wingspan. We got a fleeting glimpse in the trailer for the movie, but even from this shadow you can tell the wings are going to be huge; at least as wide as Mackie is tall.

There’s also the possibly bigger news that Captain America will be wearing a stealth uniform in the movie. We’ve seen two outfits Cap wears in the film: his traditional World War II garb; and a more modern Stars and Stripes, based in part on the uniform Cap wore in the comics when he was running S.H.I.E.L.D. We’re guessing that his Stealth Uniform is the latter, but why does Cap need to be stealthy? And how stealthy is the uniform really? And is this, in fact, a third uniform?

On to the Minimates, we won’t have a good look at new villains Crossbones and Batroc until the New Year. That said, its good to know that the characters do have their comic-book codenames, and distinct enough costumes to warrant an action figure.

Also of note: “Final Battle Captain America and Winter Soldier.” But are they fighting each other; or teaming up?

And last but not least, good old Agent Sitwell played by Maximiliano Hernandez gets his own Minimate. The clean-shaven S.H.I.E.L.D. agent has appeared in several Marvel One-Shots, and seems to be moving up into the Agent Coulson “every-man” slot for the new round of features. At the very least, he’s moved up to toy-worthy.

More official info on the toys below, which will be available in comic book and specialty toy shops in 2014. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” hits theaters on April 4, 2014.
