Britney Spears Says 'Breakups Suck,' But They Make Great Music

Spears opens up about how her split from Jason Trawick inspired new music on 'Good Morning America.'

Britney Spears is ready to give you a piece of herself on her eighth studio album. The singer, who confirmed a two-year Las Vegas residency on Tuesday (September 17), opened up about the project when she sat down with "Good Morning America."

During the chat, she revealed that her split from fiancé Jason Trawick served as inspiration for the release. "Well during this album, I had a breakup with Jason that I went through that I wrote a lot about," she explained during her sit-down on the show. "They suck. Breakups suck, they do."

The January split is something urged Spears to delve into on the upcoming album, which he is executive producing.

During her sit-down with "GMA," Spears also teased that a ballad will appear on the album, her follow-up to 2011's Femme Fatale. "I love the 'Perfume' song. It's really beautiful," she said. "I like that song a lot. It's a ballad."

In addition to her own December 3 album release, Spears will also appear on Miley Cyrus' October 8 album, Bangerz, on the track "SMS (BANGERZ)." She weighed in on the 20-year-old's buzzy VMA performance from last month, having had a few of her own over the years.

"I think any time you do a performance that is that memorable you're going to have criticism," she said. "I think she's doing her thing. She's being herself, so I give props to her." (Days before Cyrus drops her album she will premiere her MTV documentary, "Miley: The Movement," on October 2.)

When Spears wasn't opening up about her upcoming projects, she also dished a bit about her personal life, including who she had her first kiss with. Hint: his last name is Timberlake and he's got an album out later this month.

"Oh my god! Maybe [I was] 13," she said with a smile. "It was Justin."
