Becky G is a rapper, singer, songwriter and a model who recently became the youngest COVERGIRL ever — pretty impressive for only being 16.
The Ingelwood, California, native got her start on YouTube back in 2011, and since then, has been featured on tracks with Cody Simpson and Cher Lloyd. But this year, Becky G has started to venture out on her own.
Back in April she released her debut single and video, “Becky from the Block,” a remix of Jennifer Lopez’s hit single, “Jenny from the Block,” and even got Lopez to make a cameo in the video. She followed that up with the release of her EP, Play It Again, in July and just recently released a collaboration with fellow rising pop star, and 2013 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show performer Austin Mahone called “Magik 2.0.”
Yet the collaboration with Mahone doesn’t stop there, she will be featured as Mahone’s opening act for his first-ever headlining tour, which is sponsored by MTV’s Artist to Watch.
“It’s super, super exciting to be working and to go on tour with somebody closer in age and going through the same things and have the same passions do the same things,” Becky G told MTV News recently at COVERGIRL’s Easy, Breezy, Brooklyn VMA event. “And he’s just really a lot of fun to hang out with.”
The tour kicks off October 17 in Miami and for all those attending, Becky G warns fans that there will be lots of dancing.
“I think you can expect my set to be fun,” Becky G said. “I definitely want to get the party going before Austin hits the stage, and I’m a dancer. A lot of people don’t know that, so I’m definitely a groover. You’ll see some cool moves onstage.”
