Jay Z says that he and Damon Dash aren't the same people they were when they first started their famed Roc-A-Fella Records, but that doesn't mean that the two former business partners can't still party together.
On Wednesday, the old friends we photographed in New York City smiling and talking at the birthday party of mutual friend and business associate Chaka Pilgrim. Dash posted one photo of he and Hov hugged up with Pilgrim on his Instagram page, while a few more pics of the Roc co-founders popped up on the accounts of other party goers.
Just the sight of the pair together created excitement and buzz. After building Roc-A-Fella as an independent record label in the mid-1990s after the majors passed on signing Jay Z, the two built a stable that produced stars like Kanye West, Juelz Satana, Beanie Sigel. They eventually parted ways on rocky terms in 2004, leaving fans hungry for a reunion.
"The thing, what we built, you can't take that away. No time nor space, no matter how many years I ain't seen him, the love is still there, because what we've done will forever be stamped in history," Hov told Hot 97 personality Angie Martinez during a July radio interview. "We created something that's gonna go down forever. I can only have love for Dame."
In April, Dame appeared on a podcast with industry veteran Combat Jack to open up about the break-up. "I don't think it's an issue with him. I just think we took different paths, period," he said. "I'm proud of everything that he's done, and I'm proud of everything that I've done since then."
The pics don't necessarily mean that the two will do business again, however. "I just don't know where we are in our life, we're not the same two young men at that time when we gelled that way," Jay said back in July. "We're two different people."
