'Fifty Shades Of Grey' To Heat Up Summer 2014

Big-screen adaptation of the best-selling novel will hit theatres August 1.

Things are going to really hot next summer when the film adaptation of E L James' best-selling novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey" finally hits theaters in the U.S.

The movie's August 1 release date was announced on the movie's official Facebook page with a photo of main character Christian Grey's helicopter known as Charlie Tango, accompanied by the words, "you are cleared for landing," followed by the release date.

Sam Taylor-Johnson was recently picked to direct the film, which revolves around the unlikely relationship between billionaire tycoon Christian Grey and the young, vulnerable Anastasia Steele.

"I am excited to be charged with the evolution of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' from page to screen," Taylor-Johnson said in a statement. "For the legions of fans, I want to say that I will honor the power of Erika's book and the characters of Christian and Anastasia. They are under my skin too."

Taylor-Johnson joins "Terra Nova" writer Kelly Marcel and producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti.

With a release date, a director and writer all in place, many are now wondering who will take on the coveted roles of Christian and Anna. Countless high-profile names have been rumored for the role of Christian, including Ian Somerholder, who said it would be "amazing," and Robert Pattinson, who was supposedly spotted out with E L James recently. As for Anna, several different actresses have been named to take on the racy character including Lucy Hale, Nina Dobrev and Alexis Bledel.
