The 2013 CMT Music Awards are just around the corner and the roster of superstar performers and presenters just keeps getting bigger.
The show will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CMT with performances by Taylor Swift, Hunter Hayes and Carrie Underwood, as well as just added collaborations featuring Lenny Kravitz (who will team up with the night’s co-host, Jason Aldean) and “Country Grammar” rapper Nelly, with breakout jam-of-the-summer act Florida Georgia Line for a version of their crossover hit, “Cruise.”
“A lot of energy, we’re going to have a lot of fun,” long-time country music fan Nelly promised of his hook-up with FGL on the remix of the song. “It’s the guys’ first year of making the rounds, so to speak, so I know they’re real excited. I’m real excited. It’s my first time performing at [a] country music awards [show] … so, we’ve got a lot of pumped-up anxiety.”
In addition to Kravitz and Nelly, “Merry Go Round” singer and Female Video of the Year nominee Kacey Musgraves will take the CMT Music Awards main stage for the first time alongside just-added presenters and guests Blake Shelton, AnnaSophia Robb, Cassadee Pope, Dax Shepard, Sheryl Crow, Vince Vaughn, Kenny Rogers, Jana Kramer, Dr. Drew, Lorraine Bracco, Reba and the Band Perry.
This year’s show, co-hosted by Aldean and Kristen Bell, is already packed with the most performances ever, including songs by Lady Antebellum, Darius Rucker, Keith Urban, Little Big Town and Luke Bryan. Recently reunited group the Mavericks will serve as the night’s official house band.
Eric Church, Bryan and Miranda Lambert lead all nominees for the 2013 awards with four each. Just behind them with three each are Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts and first-time nominees Florida Georgia Line, while Underwood, Brad Paisley, Hayes, Jana Kramer, Journey, Musgraves, Little Big Town, Swift and Tim McGraw scored two each.
Voting for this year’s show is closed, but the six finalists for Video of the Year (nominees include Paisley, Underwood, Church, Florida Georgia Line, Hayes, Aldean, Chesney, Little Big Town, Bryan, Lambert, Swift and McGraw) will be announced at the beginning of the live show and fans can then vote at CMT.com, CMT mobile, on the CMT Insider app and via text message throughout the live telecast (ET/CT only) to determine the night’s big winner.
