Bruno Mars suffered an unforeseen loss this weekend when his mother, Bernadette Hernandez, passed away on Saturday.
Hernandez, 55, died of a brain aneurysm in Mars' home state of Hawaii, at Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, according to TMZ. The singer has yet to comment on the unexpected passing of his mother, who was born in the Philippines and was a hula dancer.
Mars is expected to kick off a world tour on June 22 in Washington, D.C. with Fitz and the Tantrums serving as the opening act on the tour's first leg. No word yet on whether the tour will in fact open at that time.
In the wake of the tragic news, Mars has received lots of love and support from his showbiz colleagues, including Rihanna, who performed with Mars at the Grammy Awards back in February during a Bob Marley tribute. "Sending my love and condolences to @BrunoMars at this difficult time! I'm sincerely praying for you bro! #1Love," she wrote. Rihanna lost her grandmother last summer after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Former "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson also had words of support for the singer. He wrote, "terrible news. Praying for you @brunomars."
