In case you were wondering how Will Ferrell is faring after "The To Do List" star Aubrey Plaza interrupted his speech for Comedic Genius at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday (April 14), MTV News spoke to the "Anchorman" star only minutes after it all went down.
And, he admits that he's not quite sure what the "Parks and Recreation" star's intentions were when she stormed the stage mid-speech. "Well I went up there and I started talking and Aubrey Plaza ran up onstage," he told us backstage. "And I think she wanted to tell me something important, but there was no message. It was just a lot of hot liquor breath. And, then, and a little bit of sweat. And then she ran away. But the ship sailed on."
As it turns out MTV News can confirm that Plaza's interruption, during which she tried to grab his Golden Popcorn statue, was not scripted. Plaza, who had the name of her upcoming film written on her chest. Ferrell went on with his speech, even bringing his fictional family up there to renew his vows. She was then asked to leave by show producers.
Not long after that, fans began to react to the moment, comparing her interruption to the famed Kanye West/Taylor Swift moment from the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, when Yeezy interrupted Swift's speech. @TaraSoudbaksh tweeted, "Did Aubrey Plaza just try to Kanye West Will Ferrel's speech? What was that?"
@DaniElleMusic_ added, "Aubrey Plaza just tried to pull a Kanye on Will Ferrell, and failed."
