If “Nuclear” wasn’t enough Destiny’s Child for your listening pleasure, then Kelly Rowland has your back. The singer has enlisted the help of Beyoncé and Michelle Williams for her next solo effort, out in June.
But unlike their last musical reunion, Rowland insists this soul-influenced track is all about her. “It’s not a Destiny’s Child track, it’s me featuring Beyoncé and Michelle,” Rowland explained to Billboard. In the interview, she also confirmed appearances from Pharrell, who worked with the trio previously on “Nuclear,” as well as Wiz Khalifa on her album, Talk A Good Game.
Soul isn’t just the name of the game on the Rowland/Bey/Williams track, but also a strong influence for much of the June 4 release. She added that the album and the song of the same name “feels like everything I wanted to make as far as music and R&B. I wanted to make sure my roots were really pronounced on this album.”
She also worked with The-Dream and Mike Will Made It on Talk. With two months until the album’s release, fans have already gotten a taste of what they can expect from the album’s lead single, “Kisses Down Low.” And Rowland noted “I decided to speak on what I was doing in my life. There’s so much talking and people gonna be like ‘Is she really talking about this on the album?’ Even down to things on ‘Kisses Down Low.’ People are like, ‘you’re talking a good game right now.’ I thought it would be really cool to name the album after those reactions.”
Talk A Good Game is Rowland’s first album since 2011’s Here I Am , which she told MTV News at the time was all about celebrating the “year of the woman.” Rowland isn’t the only DC girl dropping new music this year. Her group mate Beyoncé will also release a new album at some point in the next eight months, but hasn’t confirmed her release date. She gave fans a little tease of one of her new tracks, the Timbaland-produced, swagger-filled “Grown Woman,” last week.
