“The Voice” just got muy caliente! The second round of blind auditions were full of fun surprises and continued charm by the coaches.
After the Monday night premiere, [artist id="1270"]Usher[/artist] and [artist id="504144"]Shakira[/artist] were settled into their new gig as mentors and ready to take the cream of the crop. Shakira and [artist id="1350855"]Adam Levine[/artist] came out as the night’s winners, but it really was the contestants — and [artist id="1164298"]Blake Shelton[/artist]‘s hair — who stole the show.
Here’s how it went down:
‘Sunday Morning’ Never Looked So Good
Josiah Hawley is definitely going to have the ladies swooning. Interestingly, the model by day, church singer by night had all three male coaches fighting to have him on their team after he sang Maroon 5′s “Sunday Morning.” Shelton was actually so enthralled by Hawley’s perfect hairdo, he tried to emulate it during his pitch. Usher, on the other hand, kept it real saying, “If you want the truth, you should be on my team.” And that’s exactly what Hawley did.
Idaho duo Midas Whale (pronounced “might as well”), didn’t seem likely stand-outs until, of course, they opened their mouths. Not only did the folk duo turn all four judges’ chairs, get Usher to jump on his feet and drop a few funnies, but the very Midwestern pair dropped jaws when they started conversing with Shakira in Spanish. Of course the new members of Team Adam would do that. Might as well …
We all knew adding Shakira to the mix would bring some extra flavor, but nothing like this! Conventional country hopeful Tawnya Reynolds literally had the Latin pop starlet break out her country dictionary in an attempt to win her over. We “reckon” it worked in her favor since Reynolds is now Team Shakira. Her reign continued when she nabbed New York native Cathia, who sang in Spanish, turning around three of four judges’ chairs. “What is she saying?” Shelton asked before emphatically hitting his button.
Voice Of An Angel
Sarah Simmons not only had a touching personal story to share about family addiction, but she had a voice of an angel. Singing Joan Osborne’s “One of Us,” Simmons had all four coaches screaming to join their team. Usher praised her “conviction and passion,” while Shakira was impressed by the texture of Simmons’ voice. “You might be in my top three singers I’ve ever heard audition for ‘The Voice,’ ” Shelton said. The frontrunner opted for Levine after his belief that she could “150 percent win this show.”
