Paramore don't exactly have fond memories of previous Musical March Madness tournaments. In 2010, they were upset by eventual champions Coheed and Cambria in the opening round. The following year, they battled all the way to the title game, only to come up short against Green Day. And in 2012, they were knocked off in the Elite 8 by Evanescence.
Yet, despite all that, Paramore remain confident that a championship is within their grasp. And with the 2013 MMM tournament set to tip off on March 18, they're gearing up to topple Tokio Hotel and finally claim that elusive title ... and, as they told MTV News (and their fans) in an exclusive video message, they truly believe this is their year.
"We just got word that it's happening — MTV's Musical March Madness — and we are ready," frontwoman Hayley Williams said. "We want you guys to be pulling for us; hopefully you'll send in all your little votes and work hard every day at that, and we'll win this time. Because, you know what? It's been a while, and it's Paramore's time."
"This is a true story," bassist Jeremy Davis added. "Believe what she says."
We're more than willing to believe ... especially given Paramore's fanatical fanbase and the fact that they'll drop their much-anticipated comeback album next month. But will all of that be enough to finally put them over the top? They'll have to get past bands like Fall Out Boy and Fun. if they want to reign supreme, but ultimately, it will be up to you to decide their fate.
After all, fans vote for the winners in all Musical March Madness matchups, and when voting gets underway on Monday, March 18 — when we unveil our bracket of 64 bands — we'll see if Paramore can truly put their past behind them and claim the MMM championship. We wouldn't bet against them at this point; after all, as they've proven recently, they know a thing or two about forgetting the past ... and getting on with the present.
MTV's Musical March Madness Tournament begins Monday, March 18, when we'll unveil the full field of 64 bands that will battle for this year's championship. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act made the cut, it'll be up to you to guide them to glory.
